The Many Merits of Merino Wool and FITS Socks

Have you ever heard of FITS Socks? Why are they so great? Do they live up to the hype? We sat down with our own Nehemiah Blazek to get all the information. Blazek is a sales associate at Backcountry Beyond and a merino wool enthusiast.

“To understand the benefits of FITS, you have to first understand the benefits of merino wool. So what is Merino wool?” Blazek said.

Many of you may be unaware of the difference between merino wool and regular wool. “Merino wool is specific wool that comes from merino sheep. It is dramatically different in comparison to regular wool. Wool is normally referred to as itchy or rough,” he explains. Merino wool is softer and thinner than regular wool. Because the fibers are finer in diameter, merino wool is considered more comfortable. “The benefits of using merino wool are abundant,” he said. The number one reason most people choose to wear merino wool is that it helps with moisture management and control. The material keeps your body comfortable and temperature regulated. “Wool is naturally and perfectly and naturally designed to do this,” he stated. When wearing wool in cold temperatures it will keep you warm and wick moisture from the material. However, when it is hotter temperatures the wool will keep you cool. Merino wool is also antimicrobial, which means that it is a hard surface for bacteria and odor. Additionally, it is biodegradable, provides UPF protection, and is also fire resistant.

Why FITS?

When Blazek was asked why he felt FITS was such a good brand, here is what he said.

“Fits is a great merino wool socks brand. Their socks are a blend of merino fibers and an elastic blend which creates a nice comfortable fit,” he stated. The snug fit that most notice with this brand helps with blood flow and avoids discomfort from extra material. The socks are also sized in terms of foot volume rather than sizing. “The material is designed to stretch. When picking out a pair of FITS socks, you will notice that they appear to be smaller and slimmer than other socks. The socks come in a variety of options,” he explained. You can find socks perfect for hiking, running, and lifestyle. “Most people that try Fits agree that they are better than cotton socks and have a hard time going back to them,” he said. He recommended trying a pair for yourself.
